Visit of the descendant, rescued by the Drożdż family from Dobra
On 3 July 2025, we had the opportunity to meet Mr Krzysztof, who five months ago discovered that he was a Jewish child saved by the Drożdż family from Dobra.
He is looking for information about his ancestors. After an initial conversation at the town hall, we went to the mass grave in Pański, where a group of Jews from Dobra are buried, but we are not sure if his relatives are there.
Mr. Krzysztof's father was supposedly named Szmaja. Unfortunately, we have too little information to say with certainty who Mr. Krzysztof's relatives are.
On August 19, 1942, a group of Jews from Dobra was murdered in Mszana Dolna. However, we know that the other part of the Dobra community was sent to Limanowa. In addition, Mr. Krzysztof has some information indicating that his father was in hiding and did not die until 1943. We will look for further data, and perhaps we will be able to find out more.
Mr. Krzysztof only recently found out that he is 84 years old; until now, he thought he was 81! Because his adoptive sister was born in the same year as him, 1941, the boy was made younger so that there would be no doubt about his origins.
Mr. Krzysztof came to Mszana with his friend from Dobra, Józef Mrózek.
We hope that this moving story will continue and that we will be able to help Mr. Krzysztof find his family roots.
