The second edition of our educational project "The story of the bicultural, pre-war Mszana Dolna"

We are delighted to announce that we are starting the second edition of the "The story of the bicultural, pre-war Mszana Dolna"! We would like to remind you that last year, as many as 17 meetings were held for the town's inhabitants and guests: in the Town Library, the Town Hall, the Jewish cemetery and in the public space of the town, and they concerned the wide, complex history and culture of our town and the relationship between Judaism and Christianity. The events were streamed online and later made available on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@sztetlmshanadolna Wishing to continue the project, which has been very popular, we have applied for grants to some institutions and have received support to organise further meetings. These include grants from the Ministry of Culture, the Malopolska Voivodship and the Limanowa Poviat - so our efforts were appreciated at all levels of public administration. Probably not without significance was the full acceptance of our reports from the 1st edition of the project. We would like to inaugurate this year's edition in the Mszana Dolna Municipal Library on 26.05.2022 at 5 p.m. We will talk about the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which is just beginning then, and its relation to our Pentecost. Traditionally, the meeting will be accompanied by a tasting of food related to the holiday, coffee and tea. During the next meeting, dedicated especially (but not only) to the younger participants, the mysterious Detective Fiszka will appear - an art historian from Mszana Dolna, author of the Wise Children's Book of the Year. We recommend bringing your kids, there will be an opportunity to buy books signed by the Author. Subsequent meetings will focus on such topics as Christians of Jewish origin in Mszana Dolna, literary workshops with the writer Patrycja Dołowy, a psychologist's look at the Jerusalem Syndrome affecting pilgrims in the Holy Land, and a virtual journey to Safed, the cradle of Jewish mysticism. There will be art workshops, concerts, a painting exhibition and a partly sung encounter with the poetry of Leśmian. We will learn about other aspects of Judaism, and we will also try to tackle more difficult topics, such as the dehumanisation as the genesis of the Holocaust. These are just some of the events planned. We will keep you up to date, and all meetings will be also streamed online and later available as recordings on our YouTube channel. Honorary patronage over this edition of the project has been assumed, as before, by the Mayor, Anna Pękała, for which we are extremely grateful. The co-organisers are the Mszana Dolna Municipal Library and the City of Mszana Dolna. "Subsidised by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of the programme EtnoPolska National Cultural Centre. Edition 2023". "Project implemented with the financial support of the Malopolska Region". "Project co-financed from the budget of the Limanowa Poviat". Grants acquisition: our Vice-President, Marek Rekucki
