The 26th Day of Judaism in Poland

On 17.01.2023 we celebrated the 26th Day of Judaism in Poland. We celebrated it with workshops with young people and by taking part in the Krakow celebrations, at the Tempel Synagogue, where our Jacob was asked to provide musical accompaniment for the event. Accompanied by a guitar, he performed several psalms in Polish and Hebrew, and the Shtetl Mszana Dolna team supported him from the hall.

We were hosted at the Tempel Synagogue in Krakow by the Jewish Community, and the celebration was co-organized by the Council for Dialogue of the Archdiocese of Krakow, the "Covenant" Club of Christians and Jews and JPII Pontifical University.

Guests were welcomed by: Tadeusz Jakubowicz of the Jewish Community of Krakow, Bishop Robert Chrząszcz and Dr. Jakub Drath of the "Covenant" Club of Christians and Jews. In addition, the meeting was attended by the rabbi of Galicia, Edgar Gluck, the gabbai of Krakow synagogues Kuba Lewinger, Rev. Prof. Lukasz Kamykowski and others from the Council for Dialogue and the "Covenant" Club. Interesting lecture: "The Tempel Synagogue and its significance in the history of Cracow" was given by Dr. Anna Jakimyszyn-Gadocha of the Institute of Judaic Studies at the Jagiellonian University. There was Bible reading in Polish and Hebrew, Jewish and Christian commentary, and a joint prayer. The filled hall of this largest of Krakow's synagogues and the large presence of religious sisters and brothers, especially the young ones, was a joy.

The motto of this year's celebration was a passage from the Book of Exodus: "The passage of the Lord: Today you are going out (Exodus 13:4)." The Day of Judaism in Poland has been celebrated since 1997. It was established by the Polish Bishops' Conference, setting the date for January 17.

On the occasion, we met with friends, met more in person - in a word, the words of the last song sung by Cuba came true: "See how good it is to be together with brothers!". Shtetl Mszana Dolna was represented by a strong team of 4 people. This is also our contribution to this important work, whose slogan in its first iteration, 26 years ago, was: "Whoever meets Jesus, meets Judaism".
