Renovation of the fence of the Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna is progressing

We try to inform you regularly about the progress of renovation works at the historical Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna.

The fence was crumbling and falling apart to the extent that one of the metal spans fell off and the others were barely hanging on. The Milbart stonemasonry company has already repaired the foundations, placing the new fence partly on top of the existing ones and reinforcing them. They have erected the columns on which the new screens will be mounted and covered them with stone. As a result, the cemetery has also become more visible from the road - Zakopiańska Street.

We are currently working on an information board which will be placed on the new cemetery gate. We want it to contain basic information about the monument, actions to save it and rules of conduct at Jewish cemeteries - in Polish and English. We have requested the approval of the Provincial Monument Conservator for the design. So far, the cooperation has been excellent, and we have managed to obtain conservator's approval for both the entire work and subsequent additional elements. We are extremely grateful to the Conservator's office for their excellent cooperation, understanding and assistance.

The restoration of individual tombstones will soon begin. The work will be carried out by KonsArt Marek Sawicki company from Krakow, just as in the case of previously renovated matzevot.

The cemetery is being renovated thanks to a grant from the government programme to save historical monuments, with the support of the Limanowa district, individual donors and participants in our charity auctions for this purpose. We express our immense gratitude to all those who support us in this important work!
