Our plans to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust
On 19.08.2022. there will be the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust of Jews from Mszana. The monument on Pańskie Street, erected by the son of one of the Victims, is deteriorating, cracking, and fragments of the elevation fall off. The plaque commemorating the designer and donor of the monument, Kuba Weissberger, is also cracked and needs to be replaced. The monument was erected in front of the actual graves of at least 881 victims, but the exact place of their burial is unmarked. These are urgent works that we decided to undertake, but their cost (estimated as approx. PLN 23,000. for the renovation of the monument and a minimum of several thousand for marking the graves) is far beyond our capabilities. That is why we are looking for help from descendants of Jews from Mszana, non-governmental organizations, and in the civic budget. The second urgent case is the erection of a common tombstone-monument at the Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna, where several dozen victims are buried. The cost of such a common matzevah is at least a dozen or so thousand PLN, and the marking of the collective graves is probably twice as much.
