Christians of Jewish descent in Mszana Dolna

On 23.06.2023 another meeting in our educational project "Story of bicultural, pre-war Mszana Dolna" edition 2023 took place. It focused on Christians of Jewish origin in Mszana Dolna. They were somehow separate, also tragic group of people with a dual identity, doubly "outsiders" - often referred to as "converts," and considered deviants by those who remained with Judaism. They shared the terrible fate of other Shoah Victims, dying in a mass execution on 19.08.1942 .Only one young woman was saved, thanks to the action of her father, Emil Rosenstock, who was himself killed, but saved his beloved Nusia. The neophytes contributed to the history of our city, so it is only right to honour their memory as well, and to reflect on this difficult distinction. Some - like Emil Rosesntock, were distinguished for both the city and the parish. Their names are on the monument to the victims of Nazi terror in the catholic cemetery. Others passed away almost completely anonymous. The Gottlieb family with baby Karinka, the Beres family, Anitka Sperber, Anna Śliwińska. We are glad that we were able to tell about them and soon all their names will also be on the granite plaque at Pańskie, where they rest with the other nearly a thousand Victims. At the end of the meeting, we lit Shabbat candles and served challah, recalling that the celebration of Shabbat united Christians and Jews until the 4th century. The Shabbat hymn "Shalom Aleichem" was played, and the participants talked for a long time. Touching and important was the presence of Mrs. Malgosia Gołaszewska: daughter of the only survivor from this group, Nusia Rosesntock. You can read the story of the family in the "Stories" tab https://www.sztetlmszanadolna.com/pl/rosenstockowie.html We would like to thank Mayor Anna Pękala for her honorary patronage and presence, Municipal Library Director Agnieszka Orzeł for her hospitality, Mr. Darek Ptak and his team for professional technical support and transmission. The recording will soon be on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@sztetlmszanadolna Subsidized by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of the National Cultural Center's program EtnoPolska.
