‘The Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna – our treasure and our responsibility’ – promotion of our publication during meetings in schools

On 21st and 22nd October 2025, we visited both primary schools in Mszana Górna with our ‘Tales of the Tombstone Lion’ and a lecture on the importance of caring for our historic Jewish cemetery.

Jewish residents of this town are also buried in our cemetery.

Jakub Antosz-Rekucki told the young people not only about the publication itself, but also about the importance of preserving the memory and learning about the culture of the former residents of our town and municipality.

He prepared a presentation with the telling title: ‘The Jewish cemetery in Mszana – our treasure and our responsibility’, which also included basic information about Jewish cemeteries and Judaism in general.

A large number of students, especially from School No. 2, are volunteers who have worked with us many times to tidy up our historic necropolis, but there were also young people encountering the subject for the first time.

The pupils were curious, asked many additional questions, and at the end, each received a copy of the book with a personal dedication from the author.

We would like to thank Headmistress Ewelina Płachczyńska-Struś from Primary School No. 2 for the invitation, and Marta Kubies for organising the meeting at Primary School No. 1.

The meetings were part of our educational project ‘The Story of the Jewish Cemetery in Mszana Dolna. Edition 2025’.
