The International Holocaust Remembrance Day

As every year, on January 27 – the International Holocaust Remembrance Day – we lit the lights of remembrance at the mass graves of Jews in Mszana Dolna: at Ogrodowa street where the victims from May 1, 1942 are buried; at Pańskie – the site of the greatest tragedy, where on August 19, 1942 the German Nazis murdered 881 Jews: ones from Mszana Dolna and those who had been displaced there; and at Jewish cementery at Zakopiańska street, where the individual victims killed during the occupation period are buried. We prayed the Kaddish, El mole rachmim, and Psalm 16, and we put symbolic pebbles on the tombs.

Mr. Chaim Appel, grandson of Mrs. Dora Zins who is a Survivor from Mszana Dolna, wrote to us to thank us for our care of the memory of the innocent victims and stated that this work makes the world a better place to live.

Our memorial ceremony was attended by a delegation of students from Zespół Szkół Techniczno Informatycznych (Technical and IT High School). The City Council, at the request of the Mayor, honored the victims with a minute of silence.
