Restoration of the fence of the Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna has begun
Anyone who follows our activities knows that the fence of the necropolis, financed in the early 1990s by Holocaust survivor Leib Gatterer, had already been crumbling and falling apart for several years; even one of the metal spans had fallen off. Wild animals were getting in through the breach. It was absolutely necessary to undertake the work and renovate it. After overcoming many obstacles and incurring additional costs in order to provide access to the cemetery, we were finally able to begin!
The renovation of the fence is being carried out by the Milbart company from Mszana Dolna, which has already proved its worth in cooperation with us.
Work on the renovation of more tombstones will continue soon - this task has also been undertaken by KonsArt Marek Sawicki from Krakow, a conservation company we have already cooperated with.
Renovation of the Jewish cemetery in Mszana Dolna: Subsidised by the Government Programme for the Reconstruction of Monuments. Subsidy value: 488040 PLN. Participation of the Town of Mszana Dolna: 9960 zł. Total value of the task 498000 zł
The Limanowa poviat co-financed the renovation of the matzevot to the amount of 10,000 zł.
The cost of restoring the access to the cemetery, so that the renovation could be carried out at all, was borne by us, as the Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation. This work was supported, among other things, by charity auctions that we held for this purpose
