Meeting within the framework of the project ‘The Story of the Jewish Cemetery in Mszana Dolna. Edition 2024" - this time in the Primary School No. 1 in Mszana Dolna
As part of the project ‘The Story of the Jewish Cemetery in Mszana Dolna. Edition 2024’, we visited another school, this time in in our town. However, before the older classes of Primary School No. 1 listened to the story of the historic necropolis, they were introduced to the history of the life and death of Mszana's Jews. This is because the historic cemetery on Zakopiańska Street is practically the only material trace of their existence. There was information about the Jewish inhabitants and their contribution to the development of the town. Photographs of the synagogue, mikvah, the family of Mszana rabbis, lawyers, doctors, soldiers and the founders of the library were presented. The pupils learned about the concept and course of the Holocaust in Mszana Dolna, the Mszana memorials and the stories of those who died in the death camps. The presentation was supplemented by the presentation of non-Jewish victims of these camps from Mszana Dolna; as the school is planning a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau, this additional information was important.
In addition to the presentation, students could see a small exhibition of photographs of the Mszana Dolna Jewish cemetery, and receive a book about it, which also contains threads about the history of the Jews in Mszana Dolna.
We would like to thank the headmistress Stanisława Łabuz and the teachers - especially Ms Kasia Mielnikiewicz - for the invitation and for the opportunity to share this important but little-known part of our town's history with another group of young people.
