‘Like a complete unknown – Bob Dylan’s songs concert

“Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone”

On 25 July 2025, a concert of Bob Dylan's songs was held at the Municipal Library in Mszana Dolna, the title of which referred to the lyrics of this very song.

The work of the legendary bard, the only singer to have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, was presented to the audience by Jakub Antosz-Rekucki, a researcher and translator, PhD student at the Doctoral School in the Humanities at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

Jakub is currently finalising the first doctoral thesis in Poland devoted to Dylan, hence the concert was enriched with a lecture on the biblical contexts of the songs, their roots in Jewish and Christian tradition, and the socio-political situation in which they were written.

Jakub presented completely new translations of the Nobel Prize winner's well-known songs, and also sang excerpts in the original English, accompanying himself on classical and semi-acoustic guitar and accordion. Thanks to the presentation of meaningful themes, largely rooted in the biblical contexts of both Testaments, Bob Dylan became someone less ‘completely unknown’ to the participants of the event.

The concert was another event in this year's edition of the educational project of the Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation, ‘A story of bicultural, pre-war Mszana Dolna. Edition 2025’.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage under the Programme of the National Centre for Culture EtnoPolska. Edition 2025

The project was implemented with the financial support of the Małopolska Province, under the honorary patronage of Witold Kozłowski, Deputy Marshal of the Małopolska Province.

Event held under the honorary of the Mayor of Mszana Dolna, Agnieszka Orzeł.
