Delicious and hearty – hummus-making workshops

On the 3rd November, another event took place as part of our project ‘Hitchhiker Guide to Judaism’.

Despite the nasty weather, the Municipal Library in Mszana Dolna was filled with people interested in hummus-making workshops, combined with a joint celebration of recent joyful events: the Polin 2025 Special Award for our Foundation and the granting of funding for ‘Memory Cards from Mszana Dolna’ – the renovation of recently discovered Jewish prayer books and Talmud.

After a presentation about this oriental dish, which is becoming increasingly popular in Poland and around the world, accompanied by anecdotes, we prepared three versions of this healthy, nutritious paste together with the participants: from broad beans, chickpeas and with the addition of beetroot, which gave it a beautiful pink colour. Then we tasted all versions with the addition of herbs, vegetables, spices, bread and crisps. Everyone enjoyed it very much; some tried hummus for the first time in their lives, others asked for details about recipes and the selection of appropriate equipment. All this exceeded our expectations!

Finally, over a slice of warm homemade apple pie, we enjoyed each other's company and the award which, as one of the ladies said, ‘made our little Mszana famous in the world’. Thank you for all the warmth you have shown us! Thank you for your kind participation in our activities. For your sincere, warm congratulations. In these times, which are not always easy for our activities, human kindness, interest and the feeling of your support are absolutely invaluable to us!
