‘Alef-Bet’ Meeting around the Hebrew alphabet

What do the Hebrew letters look like? What are their symbolism, numerical values, additional meanings, and which one did God himself use to create the world? Why do we write Hebrew script from right to left and what is gematria?
These and many other questions were answered during our meeting inaugurating the new educational project ‘Hitchhiking Guide to Judaism’. And all this in the setting of Agnieszka Cahn's extraordinaryworks illustrating the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
The meeting was musically arranged by Jakub Antosz-Rekucki, performing Jewish melodies on the accordion. It was also he, a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Humanities at the Jagiellonian University, who introduced the audience to the literary part of the lecture. The mystical context with elements of gematria was supplemented by our theologian and President of the Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation, Urszula Antosz-Rekucka.
This is yet another - after the presentation of the theme of the Psalms - successful duet by two of our speakers.
We would like to thank all the participants: both those gathered in the Library and on the online broadcast. The next meeting is next Monday! This time we will introduce you to 3 important items for the letter ‘M’: the menorah, the mezuzah and the mizrah. See you there!

And the exhibition of works by Agnieszka Cahn itself is still available for viewing in our Library.
